Instructor: Liisa Freure M.Ed, OCT, Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
Although no formal degree or diploma is required to take the training, a Bachelor of Arts (or equivalent) is required to apply to the Academy to become a Classroom Educator, Associate, or Certified Member as well as completion of a supervised practicum.

CANCELLATION POLICY
FUNDAMENTAL LEARNING reserves the right to cancel a course/workshop prior to the start date due to low enrollment, instructor availability, or other uncontrollable circumstances. If a course is canceled or rescheduled for any reason, FUNDAMENTAL LEARNING will fully refund the applicant or transfer their registration to another event.
If you are unable to attend a course/workshop, FUNDAMENTAL LEARNING will provide a partial refund less an administration fee of $100 under the following conditions:
Written cancellation requests received more than 30 days prior to the course start date will incur a 10% withdrawal fee (in addition to the $100 administration fee).
Written requests for cancelation more than 14 days prior to the course start date will be refunded less a 20% withdrawal fee (in addition to the $100 administration fee).
FUNDAMENTAL LEARNING is unable to provide refunds for cancelations less than 14 days prior to the course/workshop start date or after access to online asynchronous content has been granted.
No refunds or credits will be issued after materials have been mailed or online asynchronous content has been posted.
Non-attendance or withdrawal after this date will incur a full program fee.
For intensive online courses, access to asynchronous content is granted one week prior to the course start date. After that time, no refunds will be issued.
Teacher Training Programs
- FUNDAMENTALS is the prerequisite course for all O-G training with Fundamental Learning. It is intended as an introduction to the “Science of Reading” / Structured Literacy and provides ONLY a basic overview of the underlying components and rationale of the Orton-Gillingham approach. MEMBERSHIP LEVELS WITH ORTON-GILLINGHAM ACADEMY
SUBSCRIBER:
The subscriber course is an introduction to the Orton-Gillingham Approach.
Subscriber members are informed consumers but are not qualified to teach using the Orton-Gillingham Approach. You can apply for Subscriber level membership after taking Fundamentals.
CLASSROOM EDUCATOR:
The classroom educator is qualified to apply the Orton-Gillingham Approach to modify and provide literary instruction for the classroom or small groups ONLY WITHIN A SCHOOL SETTING. Utilizing direct instruction, teachers bring a multisensory, structured, sequential, phonics, and linguistic approach into the classroom.

SUPERVISED PRACTICUM: 50 hours; 5 observations over 8 months
ASSOCIATE PRACTITIONER:
Associate members may tutor individuals or small groups using the Orton-Gillingham Approach while continuing to be mentored by a Fellow.

SUPERVISED PRACTICUM: 100 hours; 10 observations over 8 months
CERTIFIED LEVEL:
Certified level members are qualified to tutor individuals and teach small groups using the Orton-Gillingham Approach.

ALL TRAINING is provided by a Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) .
Please note: any training that is not conducted by a Fellow or Fellow-in-Training who is formally registered with the Academy (under the supervision of a Fellow) is not acceptable as training toward OGA membership. You may contact OGA to confirm membership status of any individuals offering training opportunities.
